Jazz Jatki Festiwal

Jazz Jatki Festiwal is an event that grows out of a place with an extraordinary history. At its heart are the Jatki — today an art gallery in Ostrów Mazowiecka, a space where the past meets contemporary culture. The Jatki building was built at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1902–1903, as a municipal market hall for the meat trade. It was one of the first brick commercial buildings in the city and quickly became an important point of local life. For decades it pulsed with everyday activity — trade, conversations, encounters among residents. After World War II it served as a market hall, a role it kept until the early 21st century. Today, after a thorough renovation completed in 2018, the Jatki have been given a new life as an art gallery and a space for cultural events. Preserving their historical character, they have become a meeting place for music, art and other people. It is from this history that the idea of Jazz Jatki Festiwal grows. The word „jatki" itself carries a double meaning. On the one hand, it denotes a place of trade, encounter and everyday city life. On the other, it means a skirmish, a clash, a vivid exchange of energy. And that is exactly how we think of this festival. Jazz is dialogue. Improvisation. Sometimes a subtle conversation, sometimes a musical „battle" — full of tension, emotion and unpredictability. Jazz Jatki Festiwal is the meeting of these two worlds: community and energy, closeness and creative confrontation. The festival joins top-tier musicianship with an intimate atmosphere and direct contact with the audience. The programme draws on recognised artists of the Polish jazz scene, and its shape is set by artistic director Grzech Piotrowski. Personalities, styles and sensibilities meet on stage — and it is in that meeting that the most happens. Jazz Jatki Festiwal will take place on 24–25 July. JAZZ JATKI KAMERALNIE Jazz Jatki is, however, more than two days of concerts. It is a story that begins earlier. That is why the Jazz Jatki Kameralnie series came to life — a sequence of smaller, more intimate concerts that introduce the atmosphere of the festival. Gatherings closer to the music and closer to people. Without distance, without haste. This is where the conversation begins — the one whose strongest resonance will come in July. Jazz Jatki is a natural continuation of the history of this place.
